Rezoning for brand new housing plan denied after group disapproval

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An outcry from members of the South River Highway group halted the rezoning of property deliberate for a proposed housing growth plan.

At April’s Tippecanoe County Space Plan Fee assembly, members from the affected group voiced their disapproval of rezoning property that might have been used for residence complexes, duplexes and single-family houses.

The board finally denied the rezoning request — with a 5-11 vote in favor of the rezoning — after listening to feedback opposing this rezoning from group members. David Hittle, the chief director of the Space Plan Fee, additionally spoke out.

The plan would have seen the creation of quite a lot of housing choices on a 22-acre plot of land that runs alongside South River Highway, simply south of Purdue College’s airport, and throughout the street from Vary Lane.

The land for now’s zoned for industrial use solely, which is what prompted the petitioner, Trinitas Improvement LLC, to file a request with the board to vary the zoning to residential.
